Nothing in life comes easy, or rather, nothing in life comes without great discipline. When it comes to forming new habits, we might think of the two habit masters Charles Duhigg and James Clear, authors of The Power of Habit and Atomic Habits, respectively. While they talk about different concepts regarding habits, the central tenant is that good habits can lead to transformative change!

Let’s take a look at some habits of people who have great skin.

Cleansing: One of the most important habits in skincare is cleansing your face at least twice a day to remove excess oil trapped in sebaceous glands. It is important to cleanse with gentle and alcohol-free cleansers that feel light on your skin. Treat your skin with care and ignore products that may cause any irritation. It is always better to understand your skin type and use products that help your skin breathe. Do not over-scrub your face, which could lead to redness and skin irritations.

Moisturizing:  Alongside regular cleansing of your skin, figure out the best suited moisturizer for your skin type. Even oily skin needs moisture. Moisturizer gives your skin much-needed hydration, which is an essential requirement to eliminate skin problems and helps repair any damage caused to the skin barrier. Moisturizing is mainly connected with the outermost layer of your skin. It becomes essential when you realize that you need to protect your skin from inflammation and dirt particles to avoid any severe skin conditions.

SPF: Balanced sun exposure to produce vitamin D is important for everyone. However, direct exposure to the sun causes skin damage, including but not limited to sunburn and premature aging. Other than sunscreen, using SPF based moisturizers and serums on your face, neck, and the décolletage area will help tremendously. For other exposed parts of your body, use sunscreen and try to cover up your exposed body parts while in the sun. Ensure that your sunscreen includes an SPF of 30 or above to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

Diet: Introduce nutrition-rich foods into your diet. Vitamins and minerals that are important for your skin health should be included in your daily diet. However, be cautious with sugar consumption. Overconsumption of sugar may lead to acne breakouts and increase the risks of disease. Combine your smart skin routine with a healthy diet by including whole grains, green leafy vegetables, fruits, and other healthy fats. Keep your skin healthy with food that is high in nutrients to give yourself an ageless skin glow and effectively treat wrinkles.

Quit Smoking: Another cardinal habit of people with great skin is they avoid smoking. Smoking can lower the healing capacity of your body by decreasing blood circulation and inflammations. More wrinkles, yellowish-pale skin, and puffiness under your eyes never look good. When you smoke for a long period, chemicals like nicotine in cigarettes contribute to premature ageing while narrowing the oxygen flow to skin cells. Once your skin is damaged due to smoking, its effects cannot be reversed. Early care and quitting smoking may give you hope to accelerate the issues and prevent your skin from worse effects.
